A guide to Ahmedabad Metro: Routes, fares, stations, and future expansion plans
Ahmedabad metro has two lines: the North-South (Red Line) corridor and the East-West (Blue Line) corridor.
The East-West corridor has a trip every 18 minutes while the North-South corridor has a trip every 25 minutes.
The maximum fare which is applicable on both the operational metro lines i.e. the Blue and the Red line is ₹25 whereas the minimum fare is ₹5.
Considering the surge in demand for a rapid transit system in order to facilitate commute within the city to link the industrial wing, the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) started working on the construction of 39.259 km long Phase 1 route of Ahmedabad Metro, back in 2015. GMRC achieved its first milestone with the completion of a 6.5 km long stretch of phase 1 connecting Vastral to Apparel Park back in March 2019.
This was later followed by the completion of the entire phase 1 metro corridor which was inaugurated for the public in October last year. So, if you're confused about the metro routes and the facilities offered, here's everything you need to know.
East-West corridor between Vastral Gam-Thaltej (Blue Line)
The East-West corridor of Ahmedabad metro phase 1 stretches to a distance of 21 km (approx.). Out of the 18 metro stations, 4 stations- Kalupur, Shahpur, Ghee Kanta and Kankaria East are on the underground route while the remaining lines are a part of elevated section. It takes around 40 minutes to complete one trip from one end of this route to the other.
North-South corridor between Vasna APMC-Motera (Red Line)
There are a total of 15 Stations that connect the 18.87 km long North-South corridor. These include APMC, Jivaraj Park, Ravinagar, Shreyas, Paldi, Gandhigram, Old High Court, Usmanpura, Vijayanagar, Vadaj, Ranip, Sabarmati Railway Station, AEC, Sabarmati and Motera Stadium.
All the stations on this route have been constructed on an elevated corridor, with this, it takes around 37 minutes to complete one trip from one end of this route to the other.
