Accelerating its decarbonisation plans, Gujarat to come up with a comprehensive policy by November
In light of Gujarat's commitment to fight climate change, and in line with the Centre's vision, a comprehensive decarbonisation policy is being formulated. The policy steps aim to curb carbon emissions and the same will be introduced around November.
Moreover, numerous departments have been instructed to provide their insights regarding the issue and offer practical targets to effectively reduce carbon emissions. Herein, senior officials will present a policy draft to the decision-makers.
A collaborative exercise to formulate an effective decarbonisation policy
In tandem with India's ambitious goal of hitting net zero GHG-emissions by 2070, the forthcoming decarbonisation policy will align with the government's guidelines and help contribute to the agenda.
Various crucial departments of Gujarat, including climate change, environment and forest, agriculture, industries and mines, and energy and petrochemicals, will play their part by sending inputs from their side. This will make the exercise collaborative.
In 2022, Gujarat had set a target of mitigating carbon emissions from its energy production to 139 million tonnes by 2030. This is done by increasing the state's installed capacity of renewable energy to 68,000 MW. As per stats last year, the state curbed the emissions by some 115% in 2022 as compared to 2017.
