India submits bid for 2036 Olympics with Ahmedabad proposed as host city

India has submitted a formal bid to host the 2036 Olympics, with Ahmedabad as the proposed host city. If selected, Ahmedabad would become the first Indian city to host the Games.

The central and state governments are already planning infrastructure projects to support the event, positioning the city as a key player on the international sports stage.

City markets set to reopen today after festive break

After the Diwali break, Ahmedabad is returning to its regular business schedule. Shops and offices are reopening on Labh Pancham, with most textile markets resuming operations on Wednesday. Some businesses will reopen later in the week, starting Friday.

Over 2 lakh North Indians to join Chhath Puja celebrations in Ahmedabad

Preparations for Chhath Puja, set for the 7th of November, are in full swing across Ahmedabad. Over two lakh North Indians are expected to participate, with the main event at the riverfront near Indira Bridge.

Chief Minister, along with other dignitaries, will attend. Additional pujas will take place in Meghaninagar, Amraiwadi, Isanpur, Bapunagar, and Chandkheda. The rituals will start at 4 PM on the 7th of November and conclude at 8 AM on the 8th of November. Prasad will be distributed to all participants.

AMC forms committee for lake development, stormwater removal, and security upgrades

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has established a project-level committee to oversee the development and maintenance of city lakes, including those newly acquired from the government. The committee will handle coordination with relevant departments and explore public-private partnerships (PPP) for lake development.

By the 31st of March 2025, all stormwater connections to ponds will be removed. Sewage treatment plants (STPs) will manage water levels during the monsoon, and security measures, including CCTV installation, will be implemented.

High temp to persist in Gujarat as Himalayan snowfall delays winter arrival

Gujarat is set to experience continued high temperatures for the next week, according to the Meteorological Department. The lack of snowfall in North India, particularly in the Himalayas, is preventing cooler weather from reaching Gujarat. Despite winds from the north and northeast, the state is unlikely to see winter conditions in the coming days.
