The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has initiated the development of ‘sponge parks’ in the city to tackle waterlogging and enhance climate resilience. These parks will be designed to absorb, filter, and retain rainwater, aiding stormwater management.
Five areas—Bodakdev, Vatva, Odhav, Vejalpur, and Vasna—are part of the initial phase, with plans to expand to 22 locations in the coming years. These parks will serve as recreational spaces while incorporating permeable surfaces, rain gardens, and native plants to mitigate flood risks and boost groundwater levels.
After being restricted to one-way traffic for the past 15 months due to repair work, Shastri Bridge, connecting Vishala and Narol, is now fully operational. With the completion of repairs, both sides of the bridge have reopened, allowing vehicles to travel in both directions. This change is expected to ease the traffic congestion that had built up during the bridge's partial closure.
