Trains on Mumbai-Ahmedabad route to reach 160 km/h from Aug 15

From August 15, trains such as Vande Bharat, Shatabdi, IRCTC Tejas, Double Decker, and Delhi-Mumbai Rajdhani will operate at higher speeds on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route.

The railway administration has finalised a plan to enable these trains to travel at 160 km/h between Virar and Surat, and onward to Ahmedabad. This upgrade will allow passengers to reach their destinations faster.

Temperature stays high as monsoon delays

The delay in the arrival of the southwest monsoon has left Ahmedabad and much of the state sweltering. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon's northernmost limit remains near Navsari as of Tuesday morning, having shown no further progress for about a week.

This has resulted in temperatures staying higher than usual, with the city recording a maximum of 40.6°C, which is 2.4°C above normal, and a minimum of 30.7°C, which is 3.3°C above normal.

Enhanced security measures for Rath Yatra

In preparation for this year's Rath Yatra, the City Police has installed 4,000 CCTV cameras along the 18 km route, including in sensitive areas. Additionally, one helicopter and ten drones will provide aerial surveillance on the day of the procession.

The police emphasise the importance of these measures in preventing miscreants from escaping and ensuring no innocent individuals are wrongly implicated.

City schools to be divided into East and West Zones

The State Education Department plans to divide schools in Ahmedabad city into two zones, East and West, each managed by a separate district education officer (DEO). Schools in the western part of the city will fall under the jurisdiction of Ahmedabad West DEO while Ahmedabad East DEO will manage those in the eastern part. Currently, there is only one DEO for Ahmedabad city and another for Ahmedabad rural.

India's largest mall on SP Ring Road in Chandkheda

Lulu Group, a prominent Dubai-based company, has purchased a plot on SP Ring Road in Chandkheda for Rs 519.41 crore. The group plans to develop India's largest mall on this site, with an estimated construction cost of Rs 4000 crore. This ambitious project is set to enhance the retail landscape of the region significantly.
