City's popular Kankaria Lake to get theme-based island

Ahmedabad’s Kankaria Lake is set to undergo a transformation with the addition of a 6,000-square-metre theme-based island, designed to enhance its recreational offerings. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has invited proposals to develop the project under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

The island will host a range of activities for visitors and will be operated by the selected contractor for 10 years, with an option for a 5-year extension. Construction is expected to take eight months, promising a vibrant new attraction for the lake.

Thaltej Gam Metro Station ready, likely to be operational by Dec 15

The final stretch of Ahmedabad Metro's East-West Corridor, covering the 1.4 km route between Thaltej and Thaltej Gam, is set to become operational by the 15th of December, following successful safety inspections. Once completed, the corridor will connect Vastral Village to Thaltej Village, significantly improving east-west connectivity in the city.

Additionally, the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation is planning further expansions from Shilaj to Motera, aligning with the state’s preparations for a bid to host the 2036 Olympics.

Ahmedabad records season's low at 15.7°C, Gandhinagar chills at 11.8°C

A cold wave sweeping across Gujarat has brought temperatures below 20°C in several regions. Ahmedabad recorded its lowest temperature of the season at 15.7°C on Saturday, while Gandhinagar experienced the state’s coldest temperature at 11.8°C.

The maximum temperature in Ahmedabad dipped slightly below normal to 31.1°C, and minimum temperatures are expected to range between 16°C and 18°C over the next four days. Cold winds from the Himalayas are contributing to the sharp drop in temperatures, marking the onset of winter in the region.

Gujarat heritage sites see over 21 lakh tourists in 2023-24

Gujarat’s major heritage sites attracted more than 21 lakh visitors in the financial year 2023-24, the Gujarat Tourism Department reported. To enhance the appeal and accessibility of these historical landmarks, the state government has allocated ₹428 crore for developmental projects.

Ahmedabad's attractions like Modhera Sun Temple, Rani Ki Vav, and Adalaj Ni Vav received ₹20 crore, ₹18 crore, and ₹5 crore respectively for conservation and infrastructure upgrades. These efforts aim to improve visitor experience while preserving the cultural significance of the sites.
