Red Alert for 8 districts, thunderstorm warning for A'bad and others

On Monday, Junagadh experienced a downpour with 15 inches of rain. The monsoon has intensified over Saurashtra-Kutch and Central Gujarat, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a Red Alert for eight districts, including Surat, Navsari, Junagadh, and Dwarka.

An orange alert has been issued for 15 districts, including Rajkot, Amreli, Gir-Somnath, and Bhavnagar. Additionally, a thunderstorm warning has been issued for districts including Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surendranagar, and Mehsana.

SVPI Airport records 31 lakh passenger movements between March & May

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport witnessed a significant increase in passenger traffic, with 31 lakh passengers traveling through the airport over the past three months.

May alone accounted for 11 lakh passenger movements across 8,228 flights, compared to 8.48 lakh passengers during the same period in 2023. Airport officials attribute the surge to increased travel during the summer vacations.

AUDA constructs overbridge on SP Ring Road to ease traffic congestion

The Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) is addressing the increasing traffic on Sardar Patel (SP) Ring Road by constructing overbridges at key junctions. Overbridges at Shilaj Circle and Sindhu Bhavan Junction, located within 1.5 km of each other, are being built at a cost of Rs 237 crore.

This construction is expected to alleviate traffic for motorists traveling towards Shilaj, Bopal, and North Gujarat Saurashtra.

Gujarat to build 6 advanced helipads, one to come up near A'bad

Gujarat is set to construct 6 advanced helipads across the state, aiming to rival the technology and convenience of Delhi's Rohini Heliport. One of these helipads will be located at Hansol near Ahmedabad Airport.

These helipads are expected to enhance disaster relief efforts, promote religious tourism, and streamline VVIP travel.

Heavy rains cause severe damage to Bhavnagar-Ahmedabad Highway

The Bhavnagar-Ahmedabad highway, particularly the 27 km stretch from Valbhipur to Vartej Phatak, has suffered significant damage due to heavy rains. The highway has been in poor condition for years, but recent rains have exacerbated the situation.

However, recent repairs between Valbhipur and Ghangli, where asphalt gravel was used to fill large potholes, have provided some relief to vehicle drivers.
