Preparations underway for Tiranga Yatra on 13th of Aug

A meeting took place today at Sabarmati Riverfront House to prepare for the upcoming Tiranga Yatra, in anticipation of Independence Day on August 15. The event will feature a 2-kilometer walk, with over 200,000 participants expected.

Students from schools run by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will carry an 800-foot-long national flag. The Tiranga Yatra is scheduled for the evening of 13th of August.

New Public Address System to be installed

As part of the Nirbhaya initiative, the Ahmedabad City Police is introducing a new software-defined Public Address System (PAS) with pan-tilt-zoom cameras at 105 locations, primarily in busy public areas and intersections.

This system will feature both pre-recorded messages and live announcements from police officers monitoring the cameras from the control room.

Train cancellations due to railway work

Due to non-interlocking work between the Rajnandgaon-Kalamna section in the Nagpur division of South East Central Railway, several trains passing through the Ahmedabad division will be cancelled.

The cancelled trains include Train No. 12834 Howrah-Ahmedabad Express from Howrah on August 10 and 11, Train No. 12833 Ahmedabad-Howrah Express from Ahmedabad on August 13 and 14, Train No. 12993 Gandhidham-Puri Weekly Express from Gandhidham on August 16, Train No. 12994 Puri-Gandhidham Weekly Express from Puri on August 19, 2024, and Train No. 22939 Okha-Bilaspur Weekly Express from Okha on August 10 and 17.

IMD forecasts light to moderate rainfall for Wednesday 

On Tuesday, the city experienced light rainfall, accumulating to 1mm by 6pm. Despite the rain, cloudy weather persisted throughout the day. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts light to moderate rainfall for Wednesday.

GU issues advisory for Bangladeshi students advising them to stay on campus

Gujarat University (GU) has issued an advisory to Bangladeshi students, urging them to stay on campus amid the political instability in Bangladesh. The university has also provided a dedicated mobile number for those needing assistance.

This move aims to address the concerns of Bangladeshi students studying in Gujarat universities. Currently, about 30 Bangladeshi students are enrolled at GU, while approximately 60 are studying at Gujarat Technological University (GTU).
