IMD issues weather alerts for Gujarat, Yellow Alert for Ahmedabad

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a two-day Red Alert for several districts and Union Territories, including Chhota Udaipur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, due to anticipated heavy rains.

Additionally, a 5-day Yellow Alert has been announced for 16 districts in Central Gujarat and the Saurashtra region, including Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Kheda, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, and Vadodara.

BRTS bus services to be affected on Wednesday

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has announced disruptions to BRTS bus services in several areas on Wednesday. Routes affected include Civil Hospital to Kalupur Shuttle Route No-18, RTO Circular Route No-101, and RTO Anti-Circular Route No-201, which will be closed. 6 other routes will be partially closed, while service will continue on 9 routes.

Approximately 30 bus stands will see halted services, with operations from Kalupur to Ellisbridge, Civil Hospital to Kalupur, and Naroda GCS Hospital to Naroda Workshop suspended from 1:30 pm to late evening.

Flight delays at SVPI Airport due to heavy rains and bad weather

Travellers faced a challenging day on Monday at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) airport, battling through traffic snarls and waterlogged roads, only to encounter further troubles with 45 flight delays.

The disruptions were caused by moderate-to-heavy rainfall in Ahmedabad, as well as by adverse weather conditions in other parts of the country.

Protests erupt against STP construction in Sola and Jagatpur

Residents of Sola and Jagatpur villages have voiced strong opposition to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s plan to construct a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in their residential areas. Concerns about potential stench and health risks prompted the protest, although municipal engineers assured there would be no such issues.

The STP project, costing crores of rupees, remains a contentious issue for the local community.

3 hours of heavy rain causes chaos in Ahmedabad

3 hours of heavy rain on Monday brought Ahmedabad to a standstill, with 2.6 inches of rainfall causing widespread waterlogging and traffic jams. The Mithakhali Underpass was closed as a precautionary measure, while fallen trees at 10 different locations created additional difficulties for motorists.
