Ahmedabad to experience thunderstorms with rain on Saturday; showers to continue next week

Know details.

Ahmedabad experienced its second significant rainfall of the season on Friday, providing much-needed relief from the hot and humid weather after a four-day dry spell.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms with rain on Saturday, and parts of the Ahmedabad district may see heavy rain on Sunday. Prolonged showers are expected throughout the upcoming week.

Waterlogging and traffic jams on busy roads

Ahmedabad experienced moderate to light showers on Friday, accompanied by a cool breeze that lowered the maximum temperature to 35.7°C, which is 1.1°C below normal. The minimum temperature dropped to 27°C, 0.2°C below normal.

The city recorded between 0.5 to 1 inch of rain, which caused waterlogging and traffic jams on busy roads. Areas such as Jodhpur, Vejalpur, Bodakdev, Anandnagar Road, Vasna-Paldi, and Sarkhej reported waterlogging, attributed to insufficient drainage, inadequate road slopes, and clogged stormwater disposal lines.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) control room received complaints of seepage from Chimanbhai Bridge and waterlogging at Ujala Circle, Jashodanagar, and Makarba. Two underpasses, at Parimal and Jalaram Temple in Paldi, were temporarily closed as a precautionary measure. However, traffic in several underpasses that typically get waterlogged remained relatively unaffected, causing minimal disruption for commuters.
