Ahmedabad weather update: Strong winds and heavy rainfall hit city
Ahmedabad has witnessed a dramatic weather shift since yesterday afternoon, marked by strong winds and dark clouds that gave way to heavy rainfall across various parts of the city. The transition began around 11 AM with gusty winds sweeping through, and by 12:30 PM, rain started pouring in multiple areas.
The rainfall intensity varied throughout Ahmedabad, with regions such as Chandkheda, New Ranip, and Jagatpur experiencing particularly heavy showers. Significant downpours were also reported in Naroda, Sardar Nagar, Kotarpur Airport, and around Indira Bridge.
Disruption across the city
According to data from the city's civic body, the North Zone, which includes areas like Memco, Naroda, and Kotarpur, recorded the highest rainfall from 6 AM to 1 PM on July 15. Memco reported 1.9 inches of rain. Additionally, the Mithakhali underbridge was closed to traffic at 11:30 AM due to waterlogging.
Overall, the city saw an average of one inch of rain within just one and a half hours. The eastern areas, particularly Memco and Saijpur, received about 2.5 inches. Other neighbourhoods, including Kankaria, Maninagar, Jashodanagar, Naroda, Odhav, Dudheshwar, Shahpur, Daryapur, and Amraiwadi, recorded around 2 inches of rainfall.
The heavy rains caused significant disruptions, with school vans halting due to flooded roads, forcing students to wade through water to get home. Additionally, two to three AMTS buses were immobilized in knee-deep water in Asarwa, and two ambulances encountered delays in Asarwa and near Chamunda Bridge.
