Cyclone Biparjoy to cause strong winds and thunderstorms from June 9 over Gujarat
As Cyclone Biparjoy is moving towards India and pacing into a ’very severe cyclone’ over the Arabian Sea, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that Gujarat might witness effects of it. Strong winds and thunderstorm are expected over Gujarat from June 9.
The cyclone has been named ‘Biparjoy’ a Bangla word which translated to disaster. Located about 860 km southwest of Goa, Biparjoy is likely to intensify as it moves northwest.
Cyclone Biparjoy to intensify from June 9
Gujarat fishermen have been warned against venturing out in the sea on June 11 and 12. As per various IMD officials, districts such as Surat, Navsari, Dang, Valsad, Amreli, Bhavnagar and Gir Somnath are expected to witness light thunderstorms with lightning and winds upto 30-40 kmph from June 9 till June 11.
The change in weather conditions has lowered the average maximum temperature of Gujarat by 1.7°C below normal at 39°C. No significant change in maximum temp. is predicted for the next four days by IMD forecast. Gujrat’s Surendranagar, at 42.5°C, was the hottest weather station on June 7, followed by Rajkot at 41.5°C and Amreli at 41.2°C.
