Once vibrant clusters of traditional Gujarati havelis, the pols of Ahmedabad now stand as remnants of a bygone era. As the echoes of their past fade away, a dedicated few refuse to let these architectural and cultural treasures succumb to the sands of time.

Tucked away in the labyrinthine lanes of Dhal ni Pol in Old Ahmedabad lies the French Haveli, a beautifully restored gem that has emerged as a beacon of heritage. This time-worn residence, now owned by Ahmedabad-based builder Rajiv Patel, has undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving into a charming boutique Bed & Breakfast.

From ruin to renovation

The story of the French Haveli began with the 'Indo-French project,' an initiative aimed at breathing new life into the Old City of Ahmedabad. What started as a mission led by a French team was later taken up by Rajiv Patel. They embarked on the meticulous restoration of this dilapidated structure, ensuring that its heritage value remained intact. Hence, Patel named it the French Haveli.

Nestled amidst the narrow lanes of the walled city, the haveli offers a tranquil escape from the bustling outside world. Its central open courtyard, a hallmark of Ahmedabad's havelis, bathes the interiors in an abundance of natural light and air. Adding a touch of nostalgia, a swing sways gently in the courtyard.

Step inside, and you'll discover an exquisite blend of contemporary and traditional interiors that seamlessly merge comfort and luxury with Gujarat's rich cultural heritage. It's a unique living experience where the essence of community living is beautifully entwined with modern amenities.

A legacy of luxury and heritage in every room

The French Haveli boasts five cozy rooms, including the opulent Mahajan Suite. Ascend to the Agaashi room on the terrace, where two queen-size beds and an en-suite bathroom await. The Malo and Chabutro rooms feature bathrooms located outside. On the first floor, you'll find the Ordo Double bedroom.

For those who crave a touch of the past, Agaashi's sun-kissed private balcony, draped in bougainvillea creepers, offers captivating views of the pol's Chabutra (the bird feeder) and a 100-year-old Jain temple, adding historical depth to your stay.

Beyond its architectural splendor, the French Haveli serves as a bridge between cultures and a living testament to Ahmedabad's enduring legacies. It embodies the collective efforts to ensure that the beauty of the city's havelis continues to captivate and inspire visitors for generations to come.
