First suspected Mpox case reported; Centre issues nationwide alert

India has recorded its first suspected case of Mpox (monkeypox), identified in a young male patient who recently returned from a country with ongoing virus transmission.

In response, the Union Health Ministry issued an advisory on Monday, urging states and union territories to take precautionary measures and providing information on the symptoms and causes of Mpox.

India becomes world's top plastic polluter, generating 0.12 kg of waste per person daily

India has emerged as the largest contributor to global plastic pollution, generating 0.12 kg of plastic waste per person each day, according to a recent University of Leeds study. The country produces approximately 9.3 million tonnes of plastic waste annually.

This staggering amount of waste could fill around 604 Taj Mahals. Following India, Nigeria and Indonesia rank second and third in global plastic emissions.

Supreme Court stays Allahabad High Court's decision on UP teacher recruitment

The Supreme Court has temporarily halted the Allahabad High Court's ruling that annulled the selection lists of 69,000 teachers in Uttar Pradesh. The High Court had ordered a new list, mandating that reserved category candidates scoring as much as general category candidates be considered under the general category. This decision jeopardized the jobs of many teachers.

Chief Justice DY Chandrachud's bench has issued notices to the general category candidates and sought a response from the Uttar Pradesh government, with the next hearing set for the 23rd of September.

Tulu language added to Unicode, expanding digital tools for Tulu speakers

Tulu, a widely spoken language in parts of Karnataka and Kerala, has been officially added to the Unicode Standard by the Unicode Consortium. This update, which includes 80 new characters, follows several proposals submitted to the Unicode Technical Committee.

The inclusion marks a significant achievement for the Tulu-speaking community, enhancing the language's digital representation and accessibility.
