Knocksense Shorts | Metal fencing work along 357 kms of Vande Bharat Express route completed
To curb future cattle collision incidents, Indian Railways’ Western Railway zone (WR) initiated fencing 623 km long railway section from Mumbai to Ahmedabad, in January, 2023 with a budget of approximately ₹245 crore. This move came in view of multiple cattle-hit incidents by Vande Bharat Express running at an operation speed of 90 kmph. Till now fencing work along 357 km of the total has been completed.
When compared with last year, cattle accidents between March-May, 2022 and March-May, 2023 fell form 75 to 55. Further, the Railways claims that in patches where metal fencing is complete, zero cases of cattle run-overs are reported. Once completed, the semi-high speed train will also be able to achieve a speed of 160 kmph.
