Namo Bharat Rapid Rail completes its FIRST trial run between Ahmedabad and Mumbai | Key Highlights
The Vande Metro, officially renamed as Namo Bharat Rapid Rail, marked a significant milestone on Monday with its maiden trial run between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. For the first time, the Namo Bharat zipped along at 130 km/h. The saffron-and-black train, inspired by Vande Bharat design, arrived from Ahmedabad, early Monday morning.
Supervised by the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO), the trial assessed the train's performance and here’s all you need to know!

During the trial run, RDSO experts monitored key performance metrics such as vibrations and oscillations.
The train has 12 coaches with 1,150 ergonomically designed seats.
Passengers can enjoy fully air-conditioned coaches, CCTV, a talk-back system, passenger information displays, fire detection systems and ejector-based vacuum toilets.
The train offers rapid acceleration and deceleration capabilities for faster travel between mid-distance cities.
While final routes are still being considered, a tentative link between Mumbai and Surat is under discussion.
With a maximum speed of 130 km/h, it is faster than Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) trains but slower than the Vande Bharat trains, which can reach speeds of 180 kmph.
The new rail service is intended for intercity routes ranging between 250 and 350 km, with an average travel time of 3 to 5 hours.
Already operational on the Ahmedabad-Bhuj corridor, it covers 360 km at 110 km/h in approximately 5 hours and 45 minutes.
