Imagine getting a cup of chai right next to a grave. Seems unreal, doesn't it? Well, in the enchanting city of Ahmedabad, this unusual scenario is not only real but considered rather normal for Amdavadis who frequent Lucky Tea Stall. This tea stall, nestled in the old part of the city, has a captivating story that defies expectations and is a testament to the unique blend of tradition, art, and community that thrives within its walls.

As you step into Lucky Tea Stall, you might be taken aback to discover graves shrouded in green cloth, scattered throughout the place. Yet, what's truly astonishing is how seamlessly this fusion of chai and eternity coexists within the hearts of the patrons.

How did it begin?

The journey of this remarkable tea stall began over six decades ago when it was just a humble handcart beneath a neem tree next to a graveyard. As time passed, business flourished, and the shop grew around the graves and the tree. Today, around 26 graves that might be 400-500 years old are lovingly cared for by the owners and staff, a practice that continues to bring good fortune, perhaps earning the place its name, 'Lucky Tea Stall.'

Navigating through the graves and the diverse crowd of patrons, you'll come across a true gem - an original M.F. Husain painting adorning one of the two rooms in the 'kitlee.' The artwork features two camels and a castle-like structure set against a desert backdrop.

Lucky Tea Stall proudly boasts being the only tea shop in the world that houses an original M.F. Husain masterpiece above its tea drinkers. Gifted by Husain to the original owner, K.H. Mohammadbhai, in 1994, this painting has become an integral part of the establishment's legacy. Despite Mohammadbhai's passing, his partners remain committed to preserving this precious artwork.
