Heavy rains and cloud cover since early morning

Ahmedabad experienced significant rainfall and dark cloud cover early this morning, with the city receiving up to 1.5 inches of rainfall between 6 am and 10 am. The Jodhpur Zonal area in the city's southwest recorded the highest rainfall. Areas such as SG Highway, Shivaranjani, Gota, Ranip, Prahladnagar, Nehrunagar, and Chandlodia experienced moderate rainfall, while Naroda, Bapunagar, and Nikol saw torrential downpours. The weather has turned cooler as a result.

Meteorologist Ambalal Patel has forecasted heavy to very heavy rains in North and Central Gujarat for the next two days, July 29 and 30.

City miniplexes reopen, required to fulfill fire safety norms

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has granted permission for the reopening of around 25 miniplexes in Ahmedabad, previously sealed due to violations, including the absence of a valid fire NOC and Building Use (BU) permission.

The multiplexes were allowed to reopen on July 28, 2024, after operators provided a written bond. They are required to obtain the fire NOC within a month and the BU permission within three months.

Special trains from Ahmedabad for Ganpati Festival 

Western Railway has announced the operation of special trains on special fares between Ahmedabad – Kudal and Ahmedabad – Mangaluru stations to accommodate the increased passenger demand during the Ganpati Festival 2024.

The Ahmedabad-Kudal weekly special (Train No. 09412) will run from September 3rd to 17th. Additionally, the Ahmedabad-Mangaluru weekly special (Train No. 09424) will operate from September 6 to 20.

AMC's initiative to lease sports facilities

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has begun a public-private partnership initiative by leasing its sports facilities to private operators. The first facility in this program is the Nikol skating rink. The AMC is inviting bids from experienced sports agencies and coaching institutes for the management and operation of the rink.

The Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL) has launched a competition to design a new logo for the riverfront project, aiming to better reflect its development into a vibrant ecological hub. The contest is open to individuals, agencies, and creative professionals aged 18 and above.
