Ellis Bridge, an iconic structure standing for 132 years, is slated for restoration due to the deteriorating state of its steel structure, posing a potential danger. The decision for restoration is imminent, with the proposal likely to gain approval during the upcoming Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) meeting scheduled for February 26.
In response to numerous requests for increased security along the 11.2 km stretch of Sabarmati Riverfront, AMC has initiated the installation of AI-powered CCTV cameras. This move is part of the broader Smart City initiative, encompassing 16 sub-projects.
Besides focusing on public hangout spots, the AMC is extending camera installations along the entire riverfront, ensuring comprehensive surveillance.
As temperatures began to rise, creating a summer-like atmosphere, cool winds from the north have once again prompted Amdavadis to bring out their winter wear. The maximum temperature on Sunday was 30.5 degrees Celsius, 2.5 degrees lower than the average.
Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in the city dropped to 13.6 degrees Celsius, reflecting a decline of 2.8 degrees. The weather forecast for today predicts a cloudy and chilly day.
The AMC is introducing artificial intelligence (AI) cameras for monitoring various city activities. Initially installed as a pilot project in AMC-run AMTS buses, these cameras will provide insights into city traffic, potholes, accidents, illegal practices, hoardings, and stray cattle.
With about 10 buses serving as an experimental basis, the success of this project could lead to the installation of AI cameras across the entire fleet, significantly enhancing citywide surveillance.
