7 major roads in the city closed for festivities

In preparation for Ganesh Visarjan, seven major roads in Ahmedabad, including the riverfront, will be temporarily closed for motorists today. Alternative routes have been arranged to accommodate this closure.

This year, Ganeshotsav festivities are being celebrated publicly at 650 locations in the city, with the municipality constructing 52 artificial ponds for the occasion. To ensure security during the festivities, a total of 12,000 police personnel have been deployed across the city.

Strict action against violators of yellow number plates rule

The Ahmedabad Regional Transport Office (RTO) has issued a stern reminder that only registered vehicles with yellow number plates are allowed to offer ride services. This rule, though not new, has been violated by several cab aggregators who have been employing vehicles with white number plates.

Authorities have announced that they will take strict action against these violators, including the possibility of revoking their licenses.

AMC's dilemma regarding SVP Stadium

AMC is currently in a state of indecision regarding whether to renovate or rebuild the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel stadium. They have enlisted the expertise of Thakkar Associates, renowned for their technical proficiency in conservation architecture, to assess all potential options for the stadium's future.

Officials have noted that constructing a new stadium would cost the AMC over Rs 150 crore. In contrast, restoration is considered the more cost-effective and durable choice, potentially ensuring the stadium's usability for another three decades.

RTE extends deadline for fee details

The City District Education Officer's (DEO) office has extended the deadline for uploading fee details for students admitted in classes 1 to 8 under the Right to Education (RTE) program on the online portal until October 5.

This decision comes in response to requests from schools for an extension of the deadline for online fee detail submission. Moreover, any necessary updates for students whose admissions have been rejected must be completed by September 29.

Ahmedabad's first PPP road project

Ahmedabad is set to witness its first road construction project under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) revenue model. This project will encompass a 1.8 km long and 60 m wide section between the Airport Circle and Indira Bridge Circle. This particular road, a critical route known for VIP movement, suffers from inconsistent width, leading to traffic congestion.

AMC will contract a private firm to construct and maintain the road for a period of 15 years. Proposals from contractors have already been invited for this project.
