Biparjoy, whose depression over the Arabian Sea has intensified due to the IMD (Indian Meteorological Department), is expected to develop into a cyclonic storm by Wednesday as it moves north-westward over the southeast Arabian Sea towards Gujarat.

The cyclone Biparjoy has the potential to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall and stormy winds to Ahmedabad and surrounding areas.

Gujarat is expected to have heavy to extremely heavy rains from Wednesday through Friday, according to the IMD. The coastal areas of Gujarat such as, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Junagarh and Devbhumi Dwarka are anticipated to receive the highest rainfall. In addition, the IMD has issued warnings for strong gusts and storm surges in Gujarat's coastal areas.

Strong winds that can result in power outages and harm to infrastructure, including electrical poles and communication networks, are frequently brought by cyclones. As a result, there could be problems with the electricity grid and with travel, such as roadblocks or bridge and road damage.

The Gujarat government has decided to shut schools from June 13 to June 15 in the Saurashtra region's coastal Kutch, Jamnagar, Devbhumi Dwarka, and Junagadh districts as a precaution due to the anticipated effects of the cyclone Biparjoy.

Also, the state government has taken proactive steps to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents by deploying teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to the coastal areas.

Moreover, it is also advised to keep emergency supplies, such as food, water, and necessary prescriptions, close at hand. Also, advisable to lock up any loose objects near residences, strengthen the doors and windows, and, if required, think about moving to a safer place.
