The Urban20 (U20) Mayoral Summit is set to take place in Ahmedabad on 7th and 8th July. City leaders and Mayors from across the globe are converging for this significant event. It aims to advocate and strategize a sustainable future by tackling urban challenges faced by cities worldwide.
The summit will focus on various topics including urban resilience, inclusivity, circular economy, and data-driven governance. Alongside these discussions, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in an exhibition, film screenings, cultural programs, and city excursions.
U20 is a city diplomacy initiative under India's G20 presidency. It brings together cities from G20 countries to collaborate on sustainable development. Ahmedabad is the U20 Chair for the current cycle, with support from the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
The event will be attended by delegates representing various cities, knowledge partners, Indian and international organizations, academic institutes, and government dignitaries. The priorities include promoting environmentally responsible behaviors, accelerating climate finance, ensuring water security, advancing digital urban futures, reinventing urban governance and planning frameworks, and supporting local culture and economy.
More than 20 Mayors from around the world and 25 Mayors from Indian cities will share their experiences of city-level actions and initiatives. The summit will also feature an exhibition showcasing India's urban success stories, notable projects, and innovative initiatives. Select films will be screened to raise awareness about the impacts of climate change on urban areas.
As part of the summit, the Mayors and delegates will have the opportunity to explore Ahmedabad's historic streets, monuments, Sabarmati Ashram, and Riverfront, giving them a glimpse into the city's rich culture.
