Induben Khakhrawala: Amdavadis' staple for its 170+ types of khakhras, namkeens, sweets & more

Zeal Jani

Induben Khakhrawala has become synonymous with khakhra, one of Gujarat's beloved snacks. What began in 1955 as a humble home business by Induben, a housewife from Ahmedabad, has grown into a renowned brand that boasts over 170 varieties of khakhra, along with an array of namkeens, bakery products, mukhwas, pickles, sweets, and more.

From home kitchen to national sensation

Induben’s journey started from a necessity to support her family, but her remarkable culinary skills and dedication soon caught the attention of the local community. As her khakhras gained popularity, customers began to associate her name with the snack, leading to the establishment of the iconic brand, "Induben Khakhrawala."

Over the years, the brand has expanded its repertoire, introducing an impressive array of flavours that cater to diverse tastes. Among the unique offerings are Aadu Marcha Khakhra, Bajra Garlic Methi Khakhra, Khichdi Khakhra, Kurkure Khakhra, and even delightful innovations like Chocolate Khakhra and Chana Jor Khakhra.

This focus on both tradition and innovation has helped Induben Khakhrawala reach customers not just in Gujarat but across India and internationally.

TV serial based on Induben's life!

The journey of Induben Khakhrawala is believed to have inspired the Sony TV serial Krishnaben Khakhrawala, which reflects elements of her life and the growth of her brand. Co-produced by Asit Kumar Modi, the show depicts the story of a homemaker who evolves into a businesswoman, highlighting the impact of her brand on the community.

A wide range of Gujarati namkeens, sweets, mukhvas & more

In addition to khakhras, the brand offers a variety of Gujarati namkeens made with the same attention to detail that made the khakhras famous. Popular items include bhakharwadi, chakri, fulvadi, gathiya, and soya sticks, appealing to those looking for authentic Gujarati snacks.

So, if you're in Ahmedabad or planning to visit, don't forget to try Induben's famous khakra and enjoy it with some garam garam chai!
