A total of 1,828 trees on a four-hectare plot in Vikroli will be affected by the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, only 141 of which will be transplanted while the NHSRCL will plant over 5,300 trees as compensation at separate locations. The BMC has already issued a notice regarding the cutting and transportation of trees.
A traction and distribution substation along with a tunnel shaft and ventilation for tunnel works for Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed train will be coming up at the plot in question. Furthermore, the plot in Vikroli will also be the site of one of the entry points to an underground tunnel for the train. Out of the 508 km of the bullet train project, 21 kms will be underground.
As for the progress on the much-awaited Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, 26% of the work has been complete. The whole project is expected to be completed in 4 years.
