Discover Monsoon bliss in Ahmedabad! From riverside strolls, and long drives, to savoring Daalvada, Makai, chai, and more!

Zeal Jani

Summers in Ahmedabad can be grueling, with scorching heat that seems to linger day and night. But then, like a blessing from the skies above, the monsoons arrive, breathing fresh life into the city and bringing a sense of relief to its residents.

These rainy days not only rejuvenate the environment, but also revive some of our beloved pastimes in the drizzle filled city. So, with the monsoons upon us, let's dive into the delightful activities Amdavadis indulge in during the monsoon season.

A stroll along the enchanting Riverfront

The Riverfront is a beloved hangout spot for us Amdavadis, and it becomes even more enchanting on a rainy day. With the Sabarmati River flowing alongside and the Riverfront adorned with raindrops and clouds above, taking a leisurely walk becomes a surreal experience.

You can even rent a bicycle and pedal through the rain, instantly transporting yourself back to carefree childhood days.

Savoring crispy Daalvada

We Amdavadis are self-proclaimed foodies, and the monsoons bring us a plethora of fried delicacies to relish, optimal during the rains. If it's raining and you don't find yourself craving a plate of piping hot Daalvada, can you really call yourself an Amdavadi?! These delectable lentil fritters, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, make for the perfect rainy-day snack, and they're available all over the city.

Embark on a scenic, rainy day drive

Jump into your car, tune in some old classic songs, and embark on a picturesque drive along the highways or through the old part of the city, all drenched in the beauty of rain. The raindrops splattering on your windshield as you navigate the winding Thol road or SP Ring Road add an element of adventure and charm to the journey.

Chai-Time bliss with Maskabun

When it comes to finding comfort and warmth on a rainy day, nothing beats a steaming cup of tea. And in this foodie's paradise, we Amdavadis love to pair our chai with a sweet and spongy Maska bun.

As the city embraces the cool monsoon breeze, let the aroma of chai fill the air! And don't forget to indulge in some crispy bhajiyas (fritters) to complete the experience.

Indulging in Hot Makai at SG Highway and Kankariya Lake

Another delectable monsoon delight that must not be missed hot roasted Makai (corn) served with delectable spices. You'll find throngs of people flocking to the street-side stalls on SG Highway and near Kankariya Lake, all eager to relish this seasonal treat. The smoky, charcoal filled flavors of corn, combined with the tangy and spicy masalas, create a burst of flavors that perfectly complements the rainy ambiance.

Heritage walks through the rain-adorned city

Ahmedabad, known as the heritage city, exudes an ethereal charm during rainy days. If you feel like embarking on a little monsoon exploration, grab your umbrellas and venture into the old city. Walk through its historic lanes that transport you back in time, while the raindrops add a touch of magic to the experience. Marvel at the architectural wonders and immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage that the city proudly preserves.

Unwind at the City's Green Cafes

Ahmedabad boasts several cafes nestled amidst lush greenery. Places like Aarambh Cafe, Kamla Cafe, Toritos, Zen Cafe, and many more provide serene settings immersed in nature. Sit back, sip on a hot cup of coffee, and indulge in some delightful snacks while you soak in the tranquility of these verdant havens.

The rhythmic sound of raindrops falling on leaves creates a peaceful ambiance that adds to the overall charm of these cafes.
