If you have an interest in exploring lesser-known yet nutrient-rich foods from various states of India, or if you're someone keen on discovering traditional dishes from across the nation, then the 21st Traditional Food and Nutritional Festival is an event you must not miss. This culinary fest is an earnest effort to promote and showcase healthier food habits to urban communities that, while embracing a more luxurious lifestyle, may be inadvertently indulging in unhealthy dietary practices.
Commencing today and running until the 26th, the festival proudly features over 300 traditional dishes from various states, with more than 90 farmers exhibiting their organic products.
In the hustle and bustle of busy lifestyles and city living, we often find it challenging to pause and ensure that what we are nourishing our bodies with is genuinely beneficial and nutritious. Crops such as millets, sorghum, and pulses, which are richer in nutrients, have either vanished or struggled to find their way into the urban market.
Addressing this concern, fifteen years ago, the IIM-A initiated SATTVIK, a festival dedicated to celebrating traditional nutritious food and associated knowledge systems. The primary objective was to reintroduce nutrient-rich foods to city dwellers, raise awareness about organic food, and promote a healthy gut.
Additionally, it provides a platform for local farmers to showcase their produce, which often faces challenges in gaining acceptance in mainstream markets, thereby contributing to the conservation of agro-biodiversity.
The festival offers a diverse array of organic produce, featuring lesser-known yet highly beneficial traditional cuisines from across India. From the black peas of the Himalayan Gurez Valley to sumac-spiced millet momos, and innovative twists on classics like palak jalebi and aloe vera sabzi, the culinary fest promises to surprise your palate and introduce you to new tastes and cuisines.
With over 90 farmers showcasing their organic products, the event goes beyond just food. Attendees can also enjoy crafts, pottery, folk dances, and songs, creating a vibrant atmosphere. Moreover, there will be exhibitions featuring grassroots innovations and much more!
Don't miss the opportunity to delve into the rich tapestry of India's traditional foods, explore organic delights, and support local farmers while enjoying a celebration of diverse cultures at the 21st Traditional Food and Nutritional Festival.
