Jasprit Bumrah, the standout performer and Player of the Tournament in the 2024 T20 Cricket World Cup, returned triumphantly to his hometown Ahmedabad, greeted by a jubilant reception.
The star Indian pacer, instrumental in securing the prestigious trophy, was welcomed by his family, friends, and neighbours on Saturday amidst a lively celebration complete with flowers, traditional dhol music, and heartfelt praises.
Despite a week passing since India's thrilling victory in the T20 World Cup, the nation continues to revel in the achievement. The heartwarming videos capturing Bumrah's arrival in Ahmedabad have gone viral, showcasing the overwhelming love and admiration of his community.
The scene was further adorned as neighbours showered him with flower petals and captured memorable snapshots to commemorate the occasion.
Bumrah’s roots lie deep in Ahmedabad. Raised by his single mother, Daljit Bumrah, in Goyal Intercity society on Thaltej Road, his upbringing was far from privileged. Daljit, a school teacher, shouldered the responsibilities of the household and raising Jasprit and his elder sister after his father passed away when Jasprit was just five.
Jasprit’s early days were filled with watching fast bowlers on TV, trying to emulate their skills. Legend has it that he practiced bowling yorkers in the living room to avoid disturbing Daljit’s afternoon rest. Affording cricket gear on a teacher’s salary was a challenge, but things improved when Daljit became principal at Nirman High School and Jasprit began earning through cricket.
In 2013, Jasprit’s talent caught the eye of Mumbai Indians at the age of 19, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey that we know today!
