The Goa cabinet on Wednesday approved the establishment of an international, dedicated university for legal education, the Chief Minister informed on Wednesday. Funded by the Bar Council of India, this project is set to move Goa as the hub of legal studies, and into the league of global law institutes around the world. The Chief Minister relayed the Bar Council's vision to raise the legal aptitude of the state with the setting up of an international varsity to culture a designated space to promote law studies and research. While the location is yet to be finalised, ". All expenses are being borne by the Bar Council of India, not by us," the CM added.
Accordingly, all proceedings and operations related to the university will be managed by the Bar Council of India. The state will only cater free land to the BCI, to set up the centre. The university will also operate the International Arbitration Centre, once it is set up. This agency will be built on the lines of a similar existing outfit in Singapore.
"In the same way, the International Arbitration Centre which is related to this will be also in Goa. Right now there is no International Arbitration Centre in India, there's only one in Singapore. This International Arbitration Centre will function through the aegis of the University that will be set up here," the CM concluded.
