With a crew member testing COVID positive on board, the Cordelia Cruises’ Empress from Mumbai was denied permission to disembark in Goa. As a consequence, 2000 passengers have been stuck on the vessel outside the limit of Mormugao port since Sunday night, awaiting their RT-PCR tests reports that are mandatory to leave the ship. According to reports, the Cordelia cruise has tied up with Victor Hospital for testing people on board, the results of which are expected today.

As per the officials of the Cordelia Cruise, while all the passengers that had embarked on this voyage are fully vaccinated against this deadly virus, one crew member reported fever for a day. Post the positive result in the antigen test conducted by the in-house doctor on the ship, the authorities were informed at the first instance in line with the stipulated COVID protocol.
Under the pandemic-mandated protocols that have been set by the state and central government, the testing of all the passengers bound on the vessel is mandatory, the officials of the Mormugao Port Trust informed. Once the process is complete and the results are out, people will be allowed to deboard the vessel and continue with their day-tour planned in Goa, added the MPT officials. However, the infected crew member will be sent to a private hospital directly for treatment, read reports.
Notably, with the influx of tourists in the festive season, the positivity rate in Goa has crossed the 10% mark now. A total of 388 new cases of coronavirus were reported in Goa, on Sunday. Measures like this are very crucial to curb and contain further spread of infection in the coastal state.
