Curfew extended in Goa till June 7 in a bid to further arrest the spread of infections!

1,055 new infections and 1,396 recoveries were recorded in Goa on Friday.

Keeping in view high active tallies in the state, the Goa government has announced an extension of the COVID curfew till June 7. Previously, the curfew was imposed from May 9 to 23, which was extended to May 31, noting the continual surge in infection tallies. Now, the ongoing restrictions will be in place till June 7 and the CM has ALSO announced that there will be no official celebrations for the statehood day on May 30 this year.

"Government of Goa has decided to extend the curfew till 7 AM of 7th June 2021. The orders regarding the same shall be issued by respective District Collectors," the Goa CMO tweeted. While the shops dealing in essentials like grocery items and liquor stores are permitted to operate between 7 AM and 1 PM, the medical stores and kitchen shall remain functional from 7 AM to 7 PM during the timeline of the curfew.

No statehood celebrations for Goa this year

Further, the CM has canceled all official programs for marking the statehood day. He mentioned that given the current situation, all precautions and restrictions must be strictly adhered to, if a surge in cases has to be prevented. It is noteworthy that Goa was categorised as a state on May 30, 1987.

The CM stated that there was a need to accelerate programs for the revival of Goa's economy, which has been hit hard by the pandemic. "The current situation of the pandemic has given rise to various other challenges and the revival of the state's economy has become the need of the hour. Today the state is fully geared up to meet any challenges of the present and the future," Sawant said.

1,055 new infections and 1,396 recoveries were recorded in Goa on Friday while the state currently houses 15,326 active patients. As of now, a cumulative count of 1,53,546 individuals have been infected by the virus in the state.
