In an attempt to tighten its grip over the pandemic situation in the state, the Goa government has extended the ongoing curfew restrictions for 8 more days till August 23. While the administration has rolled out a number of relaxations in the past few days, the continuing curbs will be applicable for another week now. Announcing this decision on Sunday, the Chief Minister informed that Goa has become the first state in the nation to register first dose inoculation for 90% of its total eligible population.

Imposed for the first time on May 9, the curfew underwent multiple extensions through the last 3 months, as the state united its efforts to combat the second wave. As per the previous orders, a string of activities and establishments have been revived in the territory but the casinos, cinema halls, multiplexes and some other facilities stand closed for now.
Notably, saloons, outdoor sports complexes, stadiums and gyms with 50% capacity are allowed to reopen. Besides, shops and malls are permitted to operate between 7 AM to 6 PM. In addition to this, restaurants and bars can also conduct operations till 11 PM, with 50% capacity.
As per reports, the government has allowed colleges and coaching institutions to conduct physical classes from today but schools till class 12th, will remain shut. Given the diffusing situation in the state, a string of other relaxations can be expected in the days to come.

Out of 4,860 samples tested on Sunday in Goa, 75 were found to be positive while 85 recoveries were marked on the same day. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a cumulative total of 1,72,506 individuals have been infected by the contagion in the state while 3,171 of these have succumbed to the deadly virus. Currently, the active tally of patients stands at 912 and the state officials are trying to further reduce this number.
