After the early arrival of monsoons, heavy rains were witnessed across different parts of Goa in the past few days. Driven by heavy showers, certain parts of both North and South Goa are faced with flood-like circumstances. Reportedly, this includes Sattari and Bicholim areas in the north district Dharbandora in the south district. As per reports, authorities informed that some homes in low-lying regions have submerged underwater and a strict vigil is being maintained now.
Reportedly, the water levels in the Mahadayi river have been elevated for a long time and it contributed significantly to the deteriorating situation in Sattari Tehsil. Further, reports state that almost 50% of a village close to Sattari's Valpoi town are completely immersed underwater. As per reports, no casualties in terms of human life have been reported currently.
The MLA from the Valpoi seat tweeted, "Due to continuous and heavy rainfall, Mhadei (Mahadayi) has been overflowing. Water has entered different parts of Valpoi. Necessary directions have been issued to the collectors to have the Disaster Management team stationed at Sattari & Usgao." In order to ensure the safety and security of the residents, the officials have been asked to assure the deployment of Disaster Management teams and rescue groups to mitigate the possibilities of an impending crisis.

Reportedly, the disturbances in Bocholim Tehsil have been caused by excessive waters of the Valvanti and Sakhali rivers, which have surpassed the danger level. Notably, Harvalem village in Bicholim and Mollem village in Dharbondora have been severely affected by the downpour, leading to a flood-like situation.
Given the prevailing circumstances over the Bay of Bengal, it is expected more rainfall will be observed in Goa in the upcoming days. In view of this, the authorities from the state fisheries department have asked fishermen to stay away from the shores as uncertainties escalate in the state.
