After 23,500 vaccine doses reached the state capital from Mumbai on Wednesday, Goa is getting ready to start the first COVID-19 immunization drive. A stock of 2,350 vials currently placed in the secured cold storage, would be delivered to the assigned inoculation centres 24 hours before the launch of the maiden activity. The Chief Minister announced that a total of 19,000 employees of government and private healthcare facilities were categorised for the first phase of the vaccination.

On Wednesday, the CM of Goa took to Twitter and announced, "Goa has received 2,350 vials with 10 doses each, totalling up to 23,500 shots of #Covid-19 vaccine, today morning. The vaccines are being stored appropriately by the authorities, and would be distributed to all the centres 24 hours prior to the vaccination day."
While the state administration has selected 5 government hospitals for the first phase of the vaccination drive beginning on January 16, the process would start at 3 private hospitals across the state.

It is estimated that 100 individuals would be administered with the vaccine shot at each centre amounting to a total count of 800 recipients on the first day. The Chief Minister assured that there were no significant issues noticed during the two trial runs conducted in the state and all safety procedures are being followed. After the frontline workers are immunized in the first phase, citizens above the age of 50 years would be next in the line of beneficiaries.
