With an objective to facilitate the commuters in the state, authorities in Goa have planned to execute projects for repairing and refurbishing the road on Atal Setu. In order to implement these plans, Goa Infrastructure Development Corporation has barred traffic entry towards one wing of Atal Setu that links Old Goa Bypass with Porvorim. Expected to restore the existing bridge soon, the mending work has caused the closure of the road for a period of 4 days.

The facility was commissioned for public usage about two years ago. With the passage of time, multiple defects appeared and large potholes formed on the cable-stayed bridge. Keeping this in view, the officials roped in Larsen & Toubro to fix the faults on the road, as part of the previous agreement. Initiating its works, L&T has dug up a vast area of land to overhaul the bridge and it is anticipated that interventions will be continued for weeks.

Long-term solution being deployed for refurbishing the facility

Earlier, the company was also summoned to repair the issues on the up ramp from Merces circle. Because of the problems on this road, the vehicles bound for Porvorim were facing many difficulties. While temporary measures were deployed previously to get rid of the potholes, there was an urgent need for a long-term solution. Consequently, L&T is trying to mend all faults through a strong vision so that the locals and tourists are able to undertake comfortable journeys.

The Atal Setu is a 5.1 km long bridge that was launched in January 2019. The bridge was expected to cater to a group of 65,000 individuals who needed an easy alternative to cross the Mandovi river as a part of their daily commute.
