Ease up Goans! The state electricity department has just launched a QR Code-based electricity bill payment feature to make your payment simple, efficient and tamperproof. With this new addition to the Digital India initiative, Goa becomes the second government facility to launch QR-based bill payment.

Easing consumer experience in Goa

From digitising all the government records, to incentivising people to adopt digital means of payments, the Goa state government has been continuously making efforts towards a smooth digital transition. In a bid to ensure an easy and simple consumer experience, the Goa electricity department continues to make technological advancements.

The initiative was launched on July 30 by the Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping, Waterways and Tourism, Shripad Naik. The new system will not only be a seamless option for consumers, but will also ensure the central government's ease of doing business.

How to use QR Code-based payment system for paying your electricity bill in Goa?

With this new system in place, a QR (Quick Response) code will be printed on each electricity bill, allowing the consumer to make payments in seconds.

  • Notably, the user will simply have to scan the QR code using UPI (Unified Payment Interface) apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, PayTm etc.

  • As soon as the consumer scans the code, they will be redirected to the UPI payment gateway.

  • The bill details, along with the amount to be paid will appear on the screen.

  • Click on Pay

  • Enter your UPI ID and payment complete.

Post payment, the consumer will also be intimidated with a receipt about the payment confirmation via SMS.

The QR code will be an additional easy option of payment for consumers. QR code-based payment is more efficient, less time-consuming, error-free, more secure and tamper-proof.
