Attention Polyglots! Goa University offer you a chance to study prose, poetry and languages in French and Portuguese too. The state varsity has started the online admission procedure for several courses, including the BA (Honours) programmes in French and Portuguese for the academic year 2022-23. Any person who has cleared Class 12 exams in any stream, from any recognised board is eligible to apply for the BA (Honours) programmes in French and Portuguese at the Goa University. These are limited-seat courses and both have about 19 vacancies each. Interested candidates can apply online through the GUMS portal of the Goa Univeristy before May 31 deadline.
“There is a non-refundable application fee of ₹600 for general category candidates, ₹300 for SC/ST category candidates of Goa. Differently-abled candidates are exempted from the payment of the application fees. Candidates applying for admission under reserved categories shall be required to submit a certificate to that effect issued by the officer of the rank of the deputy collector or above,” a circular issued by Goa University said.
The BA (Honours) Programme in French, offered by the Department of French and Francophone studies include literature in the foreign languages, in addition to translation studies, literary theories, feminist literature, media/film studies, French for specific purposes, linguistics, teaching methodology, functional French and cultural studies.
Similarly, the Portuguese honours course will also cover literarary & prose, linguistics, translation studies and art appreciation. Besides, subjects like writing in practice, chronicles and travelogues on contemporary Portuguese society, analysis and interpretation of literary texts, gender studies, Indo-Portuguese studies, Lusophone culture and Goan literature, civilization and culture will round up the entire programme.
