Funded by the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance, and SBI Foundation, the breast cancer screening of 1 lakh women, using 'iBreast' devices will be organised at 35 Health Centres across Goa. Various outreach camps will also be set up for the same. Reportedly, with 10 devices stationed in North Goa and 10 in South Goa, a total of 20 iBreast devices will be used for this drive. Reportedly, the initiative will be completed in a span of two years.

Apart from screening, suspected cases will be referred to the Goa Medical College and Hospital and district hospitals for further investigations as well as complete treatment. Moreover, the positive cases of cancer will also receive free treatment with the support of state administration. Besides, the project team of YouWeCan Foundation will facilitate training and capacity building of the government health workers and auxiliary nurse midwives for the screening process. In addition to this, in-depth training will also be provided to Counsellors and IEC officers on ways to counsel the suspected cases.

Regarding this initiative, Yuvraj Singh said, "Having fought through cancer myself, I firmly believe that this disease can be cured if it is detected early and given the correct treatment. And this is our mission with the 'Swasth Mahila, Swasth Goa' initiative. Women are the backbone of our society and we are committed to making every effort for their health and wellbeing."

This is a welcoming step by the government and the foundations, considering the fact that one woman gets diagnosed with breast cancer every four minutes in India. Even though it is the most common cancer in women, early detection of this disease makes way for better treatment options leading to an increase in the rate of survival. Hence this collective initiative can result in saving many lives by early detection and treatment.

Apart from getting tested at the labs, one can also figure out their daily health by self-examination, in this case. Click here to know how you can check for signs of breast cancer at home by taking a self-exam.
