The second, upcoming airport in Goa, the Mopa International Airport is all set to open its doors to the public very soon. The airport successfully completed the necessary runway trials and has received a nod for commencing operations from the DGCA. Now, with the advancements made by the airport, the transport ministry of Goa has also decided to adopt an app-based cab service model in the transport system of Goa, most likely from November.
The app-based cab booking model has remained a missing element from the transport system of Goa. This is due to several commercial reasons and also because the local taxi syndicate is a closed community.
Referring to this, authorities stated that the government will launch a multimodal transport aggregator app in the coming days to facilitate last mile connectivity for the passengers.
Tourists (and residents) will be able to access cabs, buses, two-wheeler motorbike taxis and e-rickshaws at the Dabolim Airport using the upcoming app.
He further added that the government is also working on the addition of more e-buses to the fleet of the KTC bus service.
The state government is expecting an increase in the footfall of the tourists after the commencement of the Mopa Airport. Furthermore, it is also being projected that after being operational, the airport will help in strengthening the transport system of Goa.
As the Mopa Airport will be run by a private operator it will have all types of taxi services including prepaid taxis, Ola, Uber, GoaMiles and Rent a Car along with dedicated counters at the airport.
After the implementation, the online cab booking model will provide additional options of commute to the tourists and the locals of Goa.
