The AKTU Innovation Hub, in collaboration with UP Relief Commissioner Office, launched the Lightening and Thunder Hackathon on Thursday. This national level hackathon is an attempt to leverage technology and innovation to find solutions that can mitigate lightning risks and the loss of life and property it causes.

Lightning and Thunder Hackathon will go on till October 6

Coders and developers who are interested in this hackathon can apply till September 5, which is the last date for registration. As for the duration of the event, kicking off on August 17, the hackathon will culminate on October 6, 2023.

Alarming rise in lives lost due to lightening-related incidents

The hackathon is a welcome step towards prevention in view of the number of lives usually lost to lightening. In fact, during last month's heavy rain in the state, a total of 17 people lost their lives due to lightening within a period of just 24 hours.

And this national-level lightening and thunder hackathon can be just what was needed to reduce such risks and propose innovative solutions like early warning systems.
