1st FIA-backed Formula Regional Indian Championship & Formula 4 to be held in Feb 2022!

The events will be based on F3 cars and the winners shall be able to garner benefits for participating in major championships.

Adding a dash of thrill to sports events in the country, the FIA-backed Formula Regional Indian Championship and Formula 4 Indian Championship will be organised for the first time in the country, in February 2022. As per the plans, the two categries of races will be held across 4 cities, namey--New Delhi, Chennai, Coimbatore and Hyderabad. Certified by FIA, the events will be based on F3 cars and the winners shall be able to garner benefits for participating in major championships.

Winners to get points for FIA Super License

Notably, New Delhi, Chennai and Coimbatore already have a racecourse, which will be used for the slated events. Besides, a FIA Grade Street Circuit will be established in Hyderabad for this purpose. Being organised by Racing Promotions Pvt Ltd (RPPL), the championships will allow winner to collect points for FIA Super License, which is mandatory to participate in major FIA events like the Formula One.

Further, it has been stated that the Indian Racing League will function as a support race to Formula Regional and F4 India. As per the organisers, it is anticipated that the young enthusiasts will be motivated with the two FIA-licensed championships. It has been informed that race drivers, Armaan Ebrahim and Aditya Patel, former Formula 1 driver Narain Karthikeyan and cricket legend Kapil Dev will mark their participation in the capacity of mentors or advisors.

A move to provide international platform to Indian drivers

Joint MD, RPPL, Armaan Ebrahim said: "We look forward to building a series of championships that enable Indian drivers to compete at the highest level globally." Akbar Ebrahim, President, Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) informed that the two championships were sanctioned by the FIA Single Seater Commission and the FIA World Motorsport Council last month.

He said, "Not only will both these championships provide an international platform for Indian drivers who can now race at the International level competing against international drivers in their own country, but it also comes with a bonus package which is the FIA Driver points." With the historic victories achieved by the Indian players at the Tokyo Olympics, all official bodies are trying to propel a brighter future for sports in the country.
