With an unrivalled diversity of ecosystems, Madhya Pradesh possesses a rich and varied quality flora and fauna present across the state.

The forests of Madhya Pradesh constitute around 31% of the total geographical area of the state and nearly about 12.44% of the forest area of India. One such important forest of the state lying around 30 km away from Indore is the Choral forest.

However, in a bid to enhance the serenity of Choral forest and safeguard its borders, the Forest Department has launched comprehensive efforts to thicken the foliage and reinforce the perimeters with sturdy fences.

What is the significance of Choral Forest in the nearby region?

Fencing around forest parameters

The forest draws visitors from Indore and its neighbouring regions to witness the verdant greenery and the stunning Choral river, which entices tourists, especially during the monsoon season. However, the Indore Forest Department is now carrying out afforestation drives for thickening the greenery.

Recent months have seen significant beautification-related developments in Choral forest, and their impact will only become apparent post-monsoon.

More about the beautification initiatives

Choral Resort

Choral forest, spanning several kilometres, boasts a diverse array of trees and plants such as teak, rosewood, sal, and chiral. In efforts to enhance its foliage, the Forest Department will plant over 15,000 saplings of local species in Choral in an area of 20 hectares.

This initiative is not only expected to bolster the forest's density but will also improve the fencing around the forest parameters. In addition, this is further expected to create employment opportunities for committee members.
