As per reports, Prof. Sonawane has formulated a new drug for the treatment of blood cancer patients. Through the protein engineering method, he has devised a medicine that can aid the individuals affected by Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, a kind of blood cancer. As per reports, his inventive project has also triumphed in receiving funds from the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council, DBT, Government of India. Reportedly, he will collaborate with a department of Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai for the clinical trials.

Given the fact that a large count of individuals is diagnosed with this life-threatening disease, a good quality drug is essential for them. Currently, the treatment leads to serious health externalities like neurotoxicity, immunogenicity, hypersensitivity and other things. Therefore, researchers worldwide have been looking for a safer drug that doesn't prove to be detrimental in case of disease relapse. Now, this latest development at IIT Indore is expected to be conducive in many respects.
