The college authorities had asked for permission from the state government for conducting the autopsy of individuals whose deaths are induced by the COVID virus. Currently, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhopal is the only institution in the state where such post-mortems are done. Reportedly, it was found here that around 70-80% of the deceased individuals died due to intravascular thrombosis and not lung infection.

Officials at MGM Medical College will not only try to study the causes of death but also attempt to resolve the underlying myths regarding the COVID virus. Experts from the pathology, forensics and medicine department will take part in these examinations and find the probable reasons for death. They would explore various dimensions ranging from the level of thrombosis to the effect on other organs and causes for sudden clotting.

A senior doctor at the institute also said that all individuals in the state must get vaccinated as soon as possible. This will ensure that Madhya Pradesh acquires herd immunity quickly. If a single individual skips the vaccine dose, he can become the source of a widespread string of infections.
