Widely recognized for its urban planning, cleanliness and environmental sustainability strategies, Indore Smart City has achieved yet another astonishing feat this year. The city has excelled under the category 'Places where play supports climate action' of the Real Play City Challenge 2022, during which a total of 41 countries participated.
Developing play spaces for children, improving the quality of life for citizens and supporting against climate change are some of the subjects on which the Real Play City Challenge focuses. It takes into account the progress among leading cities across the globe.
The Real Play City Challenge received a total of 94 entries from 41 countries this year, competing for 3 distinct categories. Apart from Indore, the remaining two titles of the challenge were also bagged by Indian cities i.e. Kohima and Warangal for the first time ever in history.
While Indore was the only city of MP to win under the 'Places where play supports climate action' category, Kohima excelled in the category 'Places where play heals the people'. Warangal, the second largest city of Telangana, won under the 'Places where play unites us all' category.
Indore's “Breath and Play Freely in Clean & Green Indore” initiative focuses on the creation of play spaces for children. Under this, Indore Smart City Development Limited also focuses on the development of recreational spots to improve the quality of life for citizens and support climate action.
In line with the goals, the city authorities identified 504 open spaces city levels, neighbourhood levels, and pocket park levels, to convert them into play spaces and recreational spots for the children and other citizens. This particular initiative of green area reclamation in Indore has been acknowledged and awarded by the Real Play Coalition.
