In a significant stride towards aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, colleges and universities in Indore have broadened their array of vocational education and skill development courses for the current academic session.
This expansion has seen the number of vocational courses offered surge from a modest 4-5 last year, to an impressive 10-25 this year, presenting students with various enticing options.
Traditionally, students were offered personality development and communication skill courses. However, this academic session presents an exciting shift, as educational institutions now offer an array of subjects, including web designing, electronic organic farming, cyber security, technology, beauty and health wellness, medicinal plants, nutrition and clinical diet, export-import management, e-accounting, taxation with GST finance, services and insurance, retail management, digital marketing, sales skills, accounting, and telecommunication.
The curriculum design has been revamped to provide a structured learning path for students. Under the NEP, students now have the freedom to decide whether they want to continue with the same subject they initially selected, or opt for a change in each year. Regardless of their choice, every student is required to select at least one elective, one vocational subject, and one subject from the base curriculum.
Education experts suggest that students who have consistently pursued the same subject for two years may consider a change in their field of study, while those who have explored different subjects in their first and second years now have the opportunity to delve into advanced coursework in their chosen field or explore entirely new subjects.
