Promoting healthy eating, Indore to host Eat Right Millets Mela & Walkathon on April 1

Stressing on the importance of healthy eating, District Administration and Food Security Administration is all set to organise an Eat Right Millets Mela and Walkathon in Indore at Chhapan Dukan on April 1, 2023.

The walkathon will commence at 07:00 am from Chhapan Dukan and return to the same place after crossing from Lantern Square and High Court. Similarly, on the same day, Eat Right Millets Mela is being organised at Chhapan Dukan and will commence from 02:00 pm till 09:00.

Vision behind the initiative 

The vision behind this initiative is to spread awareness around the benefits of coarse grains among the people and also provide a platform to millets sellers to display their products and connect with future customers.

Promoting the event, slogans, posters, millets-based recipes, zumba, cultural programme, rangoli, and discussion on the consumption of coarse grains by experts, will be the main attractions in the millets mela. Besides, an online slogan and poster-making competition is also underway. 

The United Nations General Assembly has declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets. Furthering on which, The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has directed the ministries and departments to initiate activities, programmes and projects to promote and popularise the use of millets. Recently, FSSAI in association with AIIMS, New Delhi even organised a Millet Walkathon in the institute‘s campus.
