The plan aims to provide necessary education at primary levels i.e. for children between the age group of 2.5 to 6 years, lodged in these centres.

Imparting essential childcare facilities and food resources for children up to the age of 6 years, the government-run Anganwadi centres have worked efficiently towards combatting child hunger and tackling malnutrition. The special child care centres were initially set up in the rural areas of the country. However, in the past few years, multiple centres have also popped up in semi-urban and urban areas, all over the country.

Now, the Indore district administration has devised a plan to convert multiple Anganwadi centres of the Indore district into pre-schools.

More about the Anganwadi restructuring initiative

The plan for the restructuring of the Anganwadi program in the city was announced by the district collector Dr. Ilayaraja T. during a meeting which was organized this Monday.

Under the plan, as many as 15 Anganwadi centres in different areas of Indore will be converted to pre-schools with a motive to provide necessary education at primary levels i.e. for children between the age group of 2.5 to 6 years. This plan aims to address the critical need for early childhood education which is crucial in establishing a strong foundation for children's future academic and personal development.

Authorities will ensure the availability of facilities and teaching staff

Owing to the initiative, the centres will also receive infrastructural upgrades to facilitate quality education after their conversion into pre-schools.

Additionally, the administrative authorities will further ensure the availability of suitable teaching staff in restructured centres. For this, Anganwadi workers will undergo the necessary education to fulfil prescribed qualifications, or alternatively, teachers from either private or government-run institutions will be hired or transferred to these positions. Also guidance on this matter will be solicitated from state-level officials.
