The World Wetlands Day celebration is underway at Indore's Sirpur lake. It is noteworthy that this national-level celebration, themed 'Wetlands and Human Well-being' is being attended by foreign delegates and representatives from all Ramsar sites in India.

A day before the celebration, on January 1, the city mayor announced that all necessary efforts would be made to protect the Sirpur Lake from encroachment.

Committed to an encroachment-free Sirpur Lake

Notably, no new encroachments have been allowed around Sirpur Lake in the last seven months. Several old encroachments have also been removed to protect the Ramsar site. In addition to that, several Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) have been set up to make sure that dirty water from neighbouring water bodies doesn't enter the lake.
