The second trial for E-vehicles on India’s first, 270 km long, Delhi-Jaipur, Electric Highway has finally commenced. Initiated by National Highway for Electric Vehicles (NHEV) under Ease of Doing Business (EoDB), the trial run will continue for a month.

The Delhi-Jaipur highway is expected to become EV ready and operational for the public by March 2023.

2nd Trial Run to continue for a month

The one month trial will answer some major financial questions for the administration including the total cost to run the facility, power and fuel consumption charges, security expenditure, and transportation cost to ferry the employees to the charging stations.

Additionally, the trial run will also calculate approximate carbon emission saved by one EV in one year. The successful trial run will establish the viability for many other similar projects in the country and help India achieve carbon neutrality by 2070.

The first trial run was conducted last year, to check technical feasibility along the highway and to address the concerns of the investors. EV riders often fear availability of backup in case of shutdown, for which successful mechanism was established to provide backup within thirty minutes. According to the reports, it will take approximately three years for investors to achieve breakeven.
