BMC has issued COVID-19 guidelines for passengers traveling by air to Mumbai from Delhi-NCR, Goa, Rajasthan and Gujarat, in an effort to curb the spread of the contagious virus. Now, these travelers will have to mandatorily carry a covid-negative (RT-PCR) report while travelling via flight. A sudden surge in the COVID-19 cases in the national capital and other states, has compelled Mumbai's civic body, BMC, to issue an advisory to Mumbai International Airport, for the effective implementation of latest guidelines for passengers.

Fresh guidelines issued by the BMC

The order in context of carrying a covid-negative (RT-PCR) report, is to be incorporated with the current guidelines issued by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation for passengers coming from Delhi-NCR, Goa, Rajasthan and Gujarat to Mumbai. For domestic travelers, the RT-PCR sample collection is to be done within 72 hours before the scheduled time of arrival, at any of the Maharashtra airports.

The role of Airport Authority of India

The government has also requested The Airport Authority of India to check the reports before allowing the passengers to board the flight. Only after taking the test, the passengers will be allowed to go home. The contact information of passengers taking the test at the airport, is to be collected to facilitate the communication about the report being negative or positive.

The state government highlighted the fact that those passengers who do not undergo the corona test or are tested positive after arriving at the airport, will be sent to the nearest Covid Care Centre, where the treatment charge will be borne by the passengers themselves. The situation in Maharashtra is worsening with 17,84,361 confirmed cases and 81,902 active cases, as yet.
